Introduction

Muscle injuries are very frequent in sports, especially in football. The most recent epidemiological studies show that muscle lesions account for more than 30% of all lesions (1,8 – 2,2 / 1.000 hours of exposure), that is, a professional football team suffers an average of 12 muscle injuries each season, equivalent to more than 300 days of medical leave. In other professional sports such as basketball or handball the incidence is also high, but the values obtained in football are not reached. However, tendinopathies (15-35%) are very frequent in these sports and give many management problems during the season.

Despite high frequency of these lesions and the interest in seeking solutions, there is little scientific evidence on issues as important as prevention, rehabilitation and treatment of muscle and tendon injuries.
